Card games are some of the most popular titles in casino-style apps, but each has its own rules and jargon. This beginner's guide explains the basics of Teen Patti, Andar Bahar, Dragon vs Tiger, Rummy and Baccarat. Rules and payouts can vary slightly between apps, so always check the in-game rules too.

Teen Patti

Teen Patti ("three cards") is a South Asian game related to three-card poker. Each player gets three cards, and the best hand wins the pot.

Hand rankings, from highest to lowest:

  1. Trail (Trio): three cards of the same rank, such as three Kings.
  2. Pure sequence: three consecutive cards of the same suit.
  3. Sequence (Run): three consecutive cards of mixed suits.
  4. Colour (Flush): three cards of the same suit, not in sequence.
  5. Pair: two cards of the same rank.
  6. High card: none of the above. The highest card decides.

Players can play blind (without looking at their cards) or seen (after looking), and seen players usually have to bet more.

Andar Bahar

Andar Bahar is one of the simplest card games there is.

  1. One card, the joker or game card, is placed face up.
  2. You bet on Andar (inside) or Bahar (outside).
  3. Cards are dealt one at a time, alternating between the two sides.
  4. The side that first receives a card matching the joker's rank wins.

It's pure chance: no decisions affect the result after you bet.

Dragon vs Tiger

A fast, two-card game:

  • One card is dealt to Dragon and one to Tiger.
  • The higher card wins. In most versions Ace is low and King is high.
  • You can also bet on a Tie, which pays more but happens rarely.

Rounds take seconds, so it's easy to play far more than you intended. A time limit helps.

Rummy

Rummy is the most skill-based game on this list. The aim is to arrange your cards into valid groups:

  • Sequences: three or more consecutive cards of the same suit.
  • Sets: three or four cards of the same rank in different suits.

Most popular versions require at least one pure sequence (without a joker) before you can declare. Players draw and discard each turn until someone forms a valid hand.

Baccarat

In Baccarat you bet on the Player hand, the Banker hand or a Tie. Each hand gets two or three cards, and the one closest to 9 wins. Tens and face cards count as zero, and only the last digit of the total counts, so 7 + 8 = 15 counts as 5.

A word on skill and luck

Learning the rules helps you avoid mistakes, and in Rummy and Teen Patti decisions do matter. But in casino-style apps, the house still has an edge over time. No strategy turns card games into reliable income.

Knowing the rules makes the game more fun. It doesn't make it a sure thing.
